Lucy's Legacy | Camp Lucy

... was established in 2008. Camp Lucy is committed to providing activities and an environment that embraces the relationship between humans and their dog companions. Relaxation and recreation for both humans and dogs are at the root of all activities. This is a weekend when memories that will last a lifetime can be made.

Camp Lucy is being held at Camp Robin Hood September 6 − 8, 2019.

They say all good things must come to an end. Sadly, that saying applies to Camp Lucy. We started 10 years ago with an idea and not much else. Many miles and many camp visits brought us to Camp Robin Hood in Freedom NH. The camp was anxious for any business after the kids went home after their summer program. We formed a partnership with them and over the years we both grew. The camp made huge investments, especially their dining hall, and every year just got better. New cabins, theater, media building and docks made Camp Lucy second to none for a fun weekend with your dogs. All that progress didn’t come without a price. Understandably, the camp needed to make a profit and every year the cost to rent to campus went up. In 10 years we went from $45 per person to $300. I was told that next year it will be more. I’ve contacted many other camps in NH, Maine and Mass and to a camp, they have all raised their prices. Most camps now realize that there is good money to be made after the kiddo’s go home so they improved their campuses and rented the camps. Reunions, weddings, and retreats are the norm. Not many if any dog camps. Camp Lucy was, at one time, the Goldstock Funds biggest fundraiser. Now I’m just hoping we can cover the cost of the camp rental.

Because of this, we have decided to make Camp Lucy 2019 our last camp. I will continue to look for another venue and, who knows, maybe something different will pop up. Maybe I need to think outside the box. We will see. In the meantime, we will enjoy one last camp together. We will enjoy the beautiful lake and sandy beach. We will enjoy the great food and, most of all, the company of friends both human and canine.

Because I have to use money from the Goldstock Funds account to pay for the camp, I am asking everyone to register and pay for the camp by July 1st. The money that is in the Goldstock Fund is money used to help rescued dogs and I don’t want the funds for Camp Lucy to affect our grants. The quicker I get it back the less chance the missing money will affect what we do.
